Using Twitter for Data Feed Broadcasting - how to make it work

The newest Twitter business models will be blatantly commercial and will look like proxies for RSS feeds. An example in the real estate space is TwitterMLS.com which charges agents $ 0.10 to twitter a listing through one of their local city sites... @SFrancisco_MLS is an example:

Twitter, as well as other streaming feed models within Facebook and Friendfeed, is best used for "breaking news". A Twitter feed that broadcast new listings as they are uploaded into a MLS system would provide good value to potential buyers.

There are problems with advertising models like Twitter MLS:
  1. Very few will follow an MLS feed unless they are potential buyers
  2. Potential buyers will find it hard to find and then follow one of the Twitter MLS local feeds
  3. Nobody will retweet an MLS feed so the viral marketing potential is almost nil.
Conceptually, the idea makes more sense for an established trafficked listings service like HomeGain, Trulia or NeighborCity, which gets its listings directly from the MLS, to broadcast new MLS listings through its own Twitter based feed like, say, @Trulia_SF, in order to draw more traffic to their sites. Since the sites already are followed by potential home buyers, these buyers will be more likely to follow the Twitter feed than one originating from TwitterMLS.
