Skype for iPhone - Down with the Cellular Hegemony

Review: my first iPhone calls to Japan sounded like Skype through a PC headset. It did cut off after 8 minutes and I had to recall.
The cellular companies must see the writing on the wall that the public demands wifi-enabled calling and will eventually move to unlimited minutes plan to give what their customers want.
It was already possible to call people with Skype on your Iphone using Fring.
It's free it works pretty well and you could also have a conversation using MSN or ICQ (for the pioneer of the web
I agree with you, it will be difficult for cell phone carriers to ask for ridiculous amount of money in the future.
The cell phones will be smarter and smarter and it will be really easy and cheap to make call everywhere for a small amounnt of $. We need more free hotspot. This will be a great idea for the Obama admninistration.

Never could get Fring to work well, the sound quality was poor. Next up is integration of Google Voice with the iPhone... Google Voice could in fact be a Skype killer.

5 cents doesnt seem that cheap though. 1000 minutes a month is $50. Its not bad but I would like to get down to $20 or so.
I would like to see the cell customers and their horrible customer service go away.

Skype is very kewl and it works on any cell phone. When you sign up, you get a private number so there is no keypad entry. Even your contacts are automated by voice. I just sold a big home to a relocation buyer from the UK. Talked to him by Skype on my Verizon phone several times...for cheap!
