Flipping Pad - Bigger Pockets has Company

I was checking out new real estate investing blog/community site Flipping Pad and realized it was the second in the RE investing genre after the first - Bigger Pockets (with kudos to its fine architect Josh Dorkin). That led me onto a tangent which resulted in my writing about the Second Mover Advantage, a companion article to this one.
The sites are somewhat complementary and I recommend both... here's a quick comparison...
Bigger Pockets | Flipping Pad | |
User generated listings | Simple listings database could use Web 2.0 user interactivity features | "Pads" - investment properties receive comments and ratings |
Design | Web 1.0 "kitchen
sink" home page lists all resources up front (note: I don't consider
the cluttered look bad design, the resource links are well organized) | Blog-like, more spacious Web 2.0 design emphasizing property listings and community over resource links |
Forums | BP's best community resource - great participation | Will try to re-create the success of BP's forums |
Guest contribution | Beyond forums, requesting guest article contributions for the blog | Should continue to add more community features |
Resources | Bigger
Pockets covers all the bases. Josh tries to include every kind of
directory - for example, a listing form for real estate investment clubs. In
fact, it may be too much data, BP dropped its investing wiki product earlier this month. | Does FP need to have
the same comprehensive resources sections that BP has already built?
Maybe not... FP may try to position itself complementary to BP as a
community play for real estate investors |
FYI, here are some other Real Estate Investing blog resources:
- Carnival of Real Estate Investing
- Equity Scout
- Anesia Springborn Landlord Blog
- Real Real Estate Investing (R-REI)
- Fliperati (NY/NJ)

Hey thanks for the great breakdown. I was already somewhat familiar with Bigger Pockets, but had never heard of Flipping Pad. I am really looking forward to checking it out, it looks like theres some great features.

Thanks for the comparison, but I don't see the 2 sites as competing with one another. Regardless, I appreciate the plug! See you around!
