Joe and Rudy's Excellent BlogTour
In May 1983, I packed up my Honda Civic with all my earthly belongings and left California for the first time to go to graduate school in New York City. A cross country drive is a must-do experience... without automatic speed control, I fashioned one out of a tennis racket propped onto the accelerator. I've always been a radio listener because I can't stand listening to the same music over and over... the Flashdance soundtrack is unfortunately etched in my consciousness as having something to do with Nebraska corn fields.
Well, Joe and Rudy the Sellsius guys are taking their blogging tour of the US this summer from New York to San Francisco... and I can't imagine a more fun way to spend a month. I have a few suggestions for them (which I'm sure they've already thought of)...
- Put up a Blog tour wiki so your "city hosts" can coordinate where to have meetups and where to park your RV
- Invite guests to hang out for a stretch of highway
- Try out different broadband, wireless and cellular internet connections along the way and report what works best for the travelling blogger
- Here's the route - don't zigzag, snake across the
country... Joe mentioned zigzagging from
NYC/Boston>Florida>Chicago>Texas>LA>Vancouver>San
Francisco. This may be better:
NYC/Boston>DC>Chicago>Texas>Phoenix>LA>Vancouver>SF...
probably 1,500 miles faster. We love blogger friendly Florida, but it's a geographical outpost, like the third point of a triangle...
- Make a documentary!

Hey, guys. On your way to Florida, make a pit stop in Ligonier.

Having driven across the country myself, I can't see how you guys can do it without zig-zagging every which way. San Francisco is smack in the middle of the West Coast. You have to pass it to reach Vancouver if you're coming up from the south or pass it to reach Southern California or Arizona if you're heading south. Perhaps totally ending in San Francisco won't be possible. You need to get the blog-mobile back to NYC, so why not do a north swing out west and a southern swing back east? You can zig-zag up and down the middle of the country while heading west and east. Then no one feels left out and you can meet more and more of the real estate bloggers who are out there. Either way, we ultimately win since we're here in the San Francisco area.
