Made first page on Google for the keyword "Real Estate"
All
bloggers seem to like doing this kind of post at least once - how their
blogs have "google juice". It's the equivalent of a baby's first step
picture... This is my first and only post on this topic... so....
Google "real estate" and the first page results list:
www.nytimes.com/pages/realestate/
www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/realestate/
www.newsday.com/business/realestate/
All the usual suspects...
Now head over to Google Japan - www.google.co.jp - make sure you click the Japanese version button so you see what the Japanese see when they use google (and if you don't have the Asian language font plugin, you'll get junkfont) . Now query "real estate" and check towards the bottom of the page.
Yip, suddenly 日本からのトラフィックが急増しています I'm getting an influx of traffic from Japan on anything having to do with real estate. The Japanese will query Google Japan in English character (ローマ字) in order to check English language sites. All because I have a few words of Japanese on the blog.
On a more practical note, google "Palo Alto real estate" and first page voila! congrats to Kevin, who still needs more juice to overtake those lead gen sites above his.
Now I think I'll go for more foreign traffic with these "real estate" words...

That's a great story... No doubt it is a fun thing to start showing up well on Google!
BTW, the articles on your site have been loading really slow for me lately. My guess is that something in your sidepanel is really hanging up the entire page from loading. Back when I had the sidepanel of RCG loaded up, I had similar problems. Assuming you want to keep all the sidepanel stuff, then a great solution would be to load the articles first and then the sidepanel since almost everyone comes to your page for the articles and I've been known to move on after 10 seconds or so of a blog post not loading on your site. If you're not up to the coding involved in this, most new themes load the posts before the sidepanel, so maybe consider switching themes.
Best.

Thank you Dustin! I'm in the middle of migrating my blog platform to a better service... I know my blog loads slowly but I don't have access to the coding.

Pat: Great topic and really fun. My niece, Reb Livingston, is a poet, has been a blogger for years, and has a strong web presence. Before I started blogging, I used to get a kick out of Googling her name and seeing how many pages she pulled.
Now I run both of our names as a little inside family competition.
Try Googling family and friends to see what pops up. It's fun.

A great topic easily overlooked. We are so English centric we fail to realize the untapped resources in other countries where English is a second language.

That is awesome! Next up, Klingon?
I keep an eye on this sort of thing, obviously. I was doing pretty well, showing up on page 2 or 3 on Google if you typed in "Boston real estate" ... but I just checked ... number 5!
Sweet.
Oh, I am so easily pleased.

Pat - let me be the first to request an endorsement in Japanese from you to put on my site.
I'll buy lunch.

My wife is Japanese and a licensed re salesperson. One of our missions is to help any Japanese nationals looking for a home in California navigate the transaction process and make it transparent so they can avoid any of the pitfalls and problems that might occur. So far, we have had no leads. The mission is stated in Japanese on the sidebar of the blog...
