My last trip to NYC included a trip to the top of the WTC. I wouldn't go out on the observation deck. It was too high. The people looked like ants. The building was swaying. Life is so short and things change so rapidly. Imagine if I had declined to go to the top. That opportunity would never again occur. Don't miss Ground Zero. My son purposely took a side trip on business to see it. At that time it was still smoldering and was a completely humbling experience for him.

I lived in NYC for about a dozen years and worked on the 86th floor of WTC South Tower between 1996-98... the highest survivor came down from the 86th.

When I left New York for San Francisco, my memories of WTC faded. Then after Sept, 2001, they all came back vividly... I remember clearly the basement shops - the Chas Schwab ticker, the food court, the Duane Reade I would pass daily on my walk from the subway to the office. I remember how wonderful it was to get a Borders at WTC. I have pictures of my oldest son playing at the fountain with the globe as a 2 year old. The elevators would act strangely, suddenly stopping and reversing course sometimes... people attributed this to the first bombing in 1994. Before 1994, I remember parking my car in the basement of WTC. On September 14, 2001, we were at the beach next to the Golden Gate Bridge speculating on how long it would remain standing. A very sad time...
